Yrok Central Hospital's NICU Celebrates Its First Anniversary!

York Central Hospital is celebrating the first anniversary of our new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The NICU was opened on December 14, 2010 and has expanded from six to twelve stations and can accommodate up to 13 babies. This means as operational funding increases, York Central's dedicated team of paediatric professionals will eventually have the capacity to care for twice as many of our tiniest and most vulnerable babies as the old unit. Each spacious care station was carefully designed and equipped specifically for infants needing special care and includes an isolette and physiological monitor, intravenous pumps, a bedside computer documentation system and phototherapy units.

The new NICU has the appropriate space allotment and design to more easily accommodate life-saving equipment and greater flexibility to deal with emergency situations. Now, mothers and other family members have more privacy at each station allowing them to spend more personal and quality time with their newest additions.

Ultimately, this leads to improved development for babies with challenges at birth and allows families in our community to remain close to home while their precious infant is in our care and take their babies home sooner.

Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, physicians and our incredible donors, including the project's largest donor, The Volunteer Association of York Central Hospital, who helped make this project a reality!

PR: Songs of The Season is Tonight!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 9, 2011

ROBERT PILON, YCH PHYSICIANS TO SING AT HOSPITAL FUNDRAISER

Richmond Hill, ON – The voice of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and The Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera, Robert Pilon, will be the lead performer in York Central Hospital Foundation’s Songs of the Season with Robert Pilon and Friends. The inaugural event is being held tonight at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts beginning at 8 p.m.

“I am so pleased to participate in this exciting fundraiser which incorporates two of my passions: philanthropy and music,” said Robert Pilon. “Having partnered with York Central Hospital Foundation for several events, I know how important community support is to improving health care.”

In addition to Robert Pilon’s performance, a choir comprised of York Central Hospital physicians and staff will also be entertaining guests. The event’s Presenting Sponsor is National Bank and the automotive Presenting Sponsor is Lexus of Richmond Hill.

“We are so grateful to all of the supporters of this event, especially National Bank and Lexus of Richmond Hill. There are many people in our community who will require the use of our hospital’s services over the holidays. The funds raised through this event will help ensure all of the patients at York Central Hospital have access to state-of-the-art medical technology to assist in their speedy recovery both during the holidays and every day of the year,” said Bill Leacy, President & CEO, York Central Hospital Foundation.

All proceeds from this inaugural event will go towards the purchase of a standardized, state-of-the-art infusion pump system for York Central Hospital. This investment in a new pump system will increase patient safety by auto-programming medications, which in turn ensures the accurate dispensing of the right medications at the appropriate time.

Since the pumps are programmed to dispense the correct dosages, nurses and other staff caregivers will have more time to spend with their patients allowing for increased bedside attention and education.  This extra one on-one time that the staff will spend with patients will help improve the overall care and patient experience at York Central Hospital.
